ESPN’s Scott Van Pelt discusses Lenny Wilkens return to the Mavericks and what he needs to do to get back to his best

Scott VanPelt, ESPN’s resident “Mavs Guy” has returned to the Dallas Mavericks, where he has been covering their offseason for more than two decades.

He joins The Mike and Mike Show on Monday as he looks ahead to the 2017-18 season.

“I’m looking forward to seeing what Lenny’s going to do with his legs,” VanPampel said Monday on The Mike & Mike Show.

“He was injured all last year and that hurt him.

So now he’s back.

He’s got to find a way to get it going again.”

Wilkens was placed on the disabled list in late January.

The Mavericks traded Wilkens to the New Orleans Pelicans on Jan. 19, 2019, in exchange for the rights to the first-round pick (No. 4 overall) and the No. 1 overall pick in the 2019 NBA draft.

“We were hopeful that Lenny would be back with us,” Van Pampel told The Mike&Mike Show.

But with a knee injury and the possibility of Wilkens not being able to play again for a long period of time, the Mavericks opted to release him.

“Lenny’s the type of guy that, when you’re around him, you know you can trust him,” Van Auken said.

“And he knows what to expect from his teammates and coaches.

And we’re excited to see him get back on the court with the Mavs.”

Wilkins averaged 8.4 points, 3.7 rebounds and 3.6 assists in 36 games last season.

The Mavans finished 29-56 and lost to the Sacramento Kings in the first round of the playoffs.

“It’s tough to play,” Van Wilks said.

“[I’m] a little bit hurt but I know how to deal with it.

That’s the best way to deal it.” “

If you’re a coach, you want to make sure you have someone in the locker room that’s not injured.

That’s the best way to deal it.”

The Mavalos also dealt for the No, 1 overall selection in the 2018 NBA draft, which the Pelicans then used on the No-2 overall pick.

“That was a big move for us,” said Van Wilkins, who was named NBA Rookie of the Year.

“There’s not a lot of teams that want that high of a pick.

And when you get that pick, it’s not just about a guy’s stats.

It’s about a whole bunch of different things that you can build on.

I’m a fan of the way they built that pick and how they wanted to build the team around him.

I think they did a great job.”

Van Wilkens said he was impressed with the Mavericks’ young core and how the players reacted to the trade.

“The team came out and really had some great moments, so we can be proud of that,” he said.
