NEW YORK — An aaa electric car battery company that has already sold out is back on the market for about $1,200 per unit, with a 2032 price tag.
The company called Aaa Battery is a spinoff of Tesla Motors.
The battery is about the size of a quarter and is made by AAA Technologies.
Tesla says the batteries are used in Tesla’s Model S, the most popular vehicle in the United States with more than 8.5 million sales.
It’s not clear when the batteries will be available for sale or how much they cost.
Tesla has been testing the batteries on its electric cars since late 2014, when the company began testing a new battery system that uses a high-capacity lithium ion battery and two smaller batteries in the Model S. The batteries, called Power Pack, are made by the battery maker AAA.
The Power Pack has two lithium ion batteries that store up to 30 times more energy than the previous generation.
Aaa has a new, much smaller battery for the Model 3, a $35,000 sedan, but its batteries are the size and shape of a single dime.
The company says that, by the end of 2020, it will have sold 10 million batteries for Model 3.
At the time, the company estimated that it would sell 10 million units of the batteries.
In a press release, the California-based company says the 2032 cost is based on a cost per kWh of a new Tesla battery.
But the 2033 price is based largely on the cost of the battery itself, not the amount of energy stored in the batteries, which is not disclosed.
Last year, Tesla said it would charge its batteries in 2035.
After the Model 2 failed to meet expectations in the first quarter of this year, it was reported that Tesla had plans to charge its battery in 2033.
