A new electric car from Tesla Motors will be unveiled in India next week, and it will be powered by lithium ion batteries, a battery technology that is increasingly popular in cars.
The company, the world’s largest carmaker, said the vehicle will be the first in the world to have a battery powered electric motor, which is a battery-powered motor that can be powered using the electric motor’s power.
The company, which has already been testing the battery powered version of the Tesla Roadster, said it has a battery of around 500 kWh (roughly a year’s supply) of lithium ion (Li-ion) batteries, which can store up to 100 kilowatts of energy.
The batteries can be used for a range of applications, including powering lightbulbs, air conditioners, solar panels, energy storage systems, as well as charging the batteries for charging cars and other stationary devices.
The company said the battery is “a true battery technology, which provides energy storage and power management”.
The batteries are made by Panasonic Corporation of Japan, and have an estimated life of 100,000 to 150,000 hours.
The carmaker said it would launch a public beta test of the battery car next week in Mumbai, and will provide a more detailed model later in the year.
The beta test is expected to begin on December 31, 2018, with a public test of both the battery and electric motor vehicles at the Indian Air Force’s (IAF) aviation museum in Visakhapatnam on January 7, 2019.
Tesla is planning to sell 500,000 Roadsters in India, and expects the company will sell about 1.6 million cars per year.
In 2018, it sold 4.2 million cars in the country.
